JNPT – Consultancy Services for Detailed Engineering Design for Rail and Road connectivity to Greenfield Vadhavan Port at Maharashtra

Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

The Government of India has granted in-principal approval for setting up a new Major Port at Vadhavan in Dahanu. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has completed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Vadhavan Port in Dahanu Taluka, Palghar District (Maharashtra State) which needs to be updated. The Port has decided to update the DPR in line with the in-principal approval of the Government of India and go for design and Detailed Engineering including financial structuring of the project. JNPT has appointed HaskoningDHV Consulting Private Limited as a Project Consultant for this project. Further, HaskoningDHV Consulting Private Limited has engaged M R Technofin Consultants Pvt. Ltd. to carry out the study related to rail/road connectivity to the Vadhavan Port. Key features of the project include:

• Rail alignment length – Approx. 12.00 km
• Road alignment length – Approx. 34.00 km
• Road over Bridge (ROB) with approach –1,780m long
• Rail Over Rail Bridge – 1 number (Bridge over existing railway line – about 2.00km long)
• Major Bridge – 1 number (Bridge over Surya River with approach – about 270m long)
• Minor Bridges – 33 numbers (1 X 2m)
• VUP- Vehicular Underpasses- 24 number (up to 12m span)

Detailed Description of Actual Services Provided 

• Study / review of available earlier reports;
• Detailed engineering assessment of rail connectivity to the port;
• Detailed assessment and design of electrified rail connectivity;
• Prepared bridge option study for Road Over Bridges, Rail Over Rail Bridges, major (long) and minor bridges and advised on the most suitable option for each;
• Carried out the hydrological survey and studied the relevant details viz. Rainfall data, Highest Flood Level from respective authorities
• Marked the catchment area & waterway calculations for all the waterway bridges
• Calculated the design discharge for waterways as per Indian Railway guidelines
• Worked out the most optimal waterway and opening of bridges
• Prepared Hydrological Survey Report with maps of catchment area, discharge and waterway calculations for bridges
• Prepared detailed designs for the permanent way, bridges, culverts.
• Prepared Preliminary and Detailed Designs & Drawings, Bill of Quantities and Estimates;
• Preparation of Detailed Project Report, Execution Plans & Implementation Schedule, and Bid Documents.
