NTPC Ltd. had set up a Thermal Power Plant (TPP) at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district, Bihar with an installed capacity of 1980 MW (3×660 MW) as Stage-I. Now NTPC has planned its expansion with a proposed capacity of (3×800 MW) under Stage-II.
The existing railway siding is well connected with Indian Railways (IR) network via Barkisalaiya & Ankorah Railway station of East Central Railway (ECR). Coal and non-coal traffic for the project is planned to be transported through IR network. Coal for Stage-I is being sourced from Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) mines of Coal India Limited (CIL).
The likely coal source for Stage-Il is also envisaged from CCL mines with approx. 12 MTPA coal requirement. In addition to coal, transportation of limestone, dry ash, POL etc. is also envisaged through rail mode.
The scope of the present proposal is to check the adequacy of existing rail infrastructure and assessment of augmentation required for rail infrastructure and systems to handle cumulative rail traffic after forthcoming Stage-II (3×800 MW) and preparation of detailed feasibility report
